Today, I logged into Ancestry Library courtesy of my library card and did some research.

There’s not much there regarding our parents, but I found a fair amount for the previous few generations: Oma, Opa, their parents. I created pages for them, private at first, for the sake of privacy and out of concern for potential copyright issues, just to be on the safe side. I’ve since decided to create a public page for each person so that people can be put into the menu, with a link to a private page which will only be accessible to us. I’ve done one person so far.

I also changed the theme to make the site a little bit more interesting.

By the way: when I upload an image file, I put a caption on it in the media library using a standardized format, so that the images can be searched easily.

I also road-tested a few genealogy plug-ins, but the free versions are essentially useless as they are too limited. When I have time, I may look at the code and try to build a plug-in myself; but that’s for down the road when I desperately need more to do!
